Prevention

Gastritis often can be prevented by limiting or avoiding exposure to known triggers (e.g., aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs; e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen], tobacco, alcohol, caffeine).

The following measures also can be helpful:

  • Develop good eating habits (smaller meals, eating more slowly)
  • Exercise regularly
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Reduce stress (e.g., through meditation, yoga, tai chi, or massage)
